Here is my weekly Feathers on Friday post for August 28, 2015. This week's Feathers on Friday bird is a beautiful male Blue Grosbeak seen at the Rio Grande Nature Center yesterday with the Thursday Birders from CNMAS, or Central New Mexico Audubon Society. I have seen a Blue Grosbeak before but never actually seen all its colors or anything. This was one of the birds I had really wanted to see this year, and so I am happy to have had such a good look at it, and to have been able to get many pictures! I chose the best one and am posting it here.
Hi u gys, its Loona, as u probly allredy no from the bad speling. Ower owner doesn't usally spel things ron. One mor reeson y humens r weerd. So, back 2 wat I was going 2 say. So, 2day I'm going to talk abowt sum of the meny reesons humens r weerd. Of corse, there r thowsends of reesons humens r weerd, as I'm sur u felow cats hav noticed. Humens don't like to addmit they're ron. They thenk they're allways rite. Butt Browny cood com and intarupt at eny moment now, so I'd beter get on with my post. I had Browny spel check evrything that is riten beelow, so prety much all of it shood b speled corectly.
It's Caturday, and here are five texting conversations by Luna & Brownie! Luna is putting spell check to good use: because of it, she is spelling correctly (for once). Enjoy Luna & Brownie's funny texts! The gray texts are from Luna and the blue texts are from Brownie.
Thank you Mittens (textsfrommittens.com) for giving me the idea to do this.
Here is my weekly Feathers on Friday post for August 21, 2015. Yesterday we went birding in the Corrales Bosque with the Thursday Birder group, and I saw 5 life birds: Mississippi Kite, Summer Tanager, Yellow-breasted Chat, Wilson's Warbler, and Blue Grosbeak. I have 195 species on my life list, making me only 5 species away from achieving my goal of 200! This week's Feathers on Friday bird is a life bird Mississippi Kite. Pictured below is a juvenile sitting in a tree and wondering why a bunch of people are pointing cameras and binoculars at it.
Pete Dunne, famous for his writings on birds, recorded 39 bird species from sitting in a deck chair in his 'ordinary backyard' for two hours. He says, "That is the June Little Sit record to beat." Take his challenge! See how many birds you can see/hear and identify in your yard in two hours. Then email your list to Birdwatching Digest at LittleSit@birdwatchingdaily.com. They'll forward it to Pete. In your email, include the date of your Little Sit, the names of the city and state/province that you live in, and a short description of your yard and whether or not you live near a park, lake, wildlife sanctuary, or some other area that attracts birds. I'd like to hear how many species you got, too! Tell me in the comments below.

Browny and I havn't bin dooing enything speshil or ixciting this past week. Butt I hav fownd a lot of new and ixciting words in the diconary. They r (and I am only speling corectly for wonce becuz I'm copying from the diconary): Pineapple, Underwear, Bell Tower (witch is acshally 2 words butt it cownts), Eagle, Narwhal, Peach, and Replied. There r mor butt those r my favrites. I spent a lot of time studying the diconary all week. I don't thenk it payd off, do u? Acording to Browny 90% of all the words I rite are stil misspeled. Butt Browny and I hav bin texting bak and 4th all week. Hear is 1.
And that is just a peek into the dayly lyves of Loona and Browny. I am stil teesing Browny abowt the mademoiselle incident, as we call it. So enyway, 2day is Caturday. This is the furst post I hav posted on Caturday! Vary ixciting becuz Caturday is the only day of the week named after cats. I am so glad the name-decider peepull didn't name it Dogturday or Birdturday or Fishturday. And Awgust 9 was World Cat Day! Browny and I partyed all nite lawng. We wressled. We woke our owners up and invited them to party with us butt they didn't want 2. They mised owt on good fun. We tryed and fayled to open the bag of treets. We sleeped. We ran and noked aganst things and played with ower toys and texted eech other. It was fun. We felt vary honored and we-HI ITS BROWNIE!!!! WHATCHA TALKIN' ABOUT COWCAT? Excuse me. Did u cal me a cowcat? I come from Siam. I am a Siamese Cat. ITS A JOKE LUNA! YA DON'T HAVE TO TAKE THINGS SO VERY SERIOUSLY NOW, SHEESH. WANNA GO LASSO SOME COWS, COWCAT? No thanks. And what is a lasso? WELL YOU'RE NOT A COWCAT, ARE YA? IMAGINE NOT KNOWING WHAT A LASSO IS! YA TWIRL IT OVER YOUR HEAD LIKE THIS AND YA LET IT FALL 'ROUND A COW'S NECK LIKE THIS. You just lassod a chair, Browny. WELL DO YA SEE ANY COWS OUT YONDER? No butt-WELL THERE YA ARE. I'M A REAL NICE COWCAT! I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING. COWCAT FOR HIRE! NEED A COWCAT? HIRE BROWNIE THE COWCAT! And hear is a good rekomendayshun from Loona's Wisdom Corner: do not hire Browny the Cowcat. I wil probably post somtime next week, or wenever I can get my paws on the cumpoter. So, look forword 2 my next post!!!!
Sorry I'm late, I meant to post this yesterday. Here is my weekly Feathers on Friday post for August 15, 2015. This week's Feathers on Friday bird is a female Rufous Hummingbird on a hummingbird feeder. See more hummingbird pictures at my post Hummingbirds, Hummingbirds, Hummingbirds.
Also, just to let you know, I am no longer posting What Bird Wednesday. I may get back to it at some point, but for now I'm taking a break.
Here is my weekly Feathers on Friday post for August 7, 2015. This week's Feathers on Friday bird is a young male Ladder-backed Woodpecker seen in our backyard a few days ago. This male and a female who we believe is his sister have just fledged and have been continually visiting the peanut feeder and the peanut butter suet. If you do not have suet out in the summer, you are missing out on a great show! Vegetarian/vegan peanut butter suet is great for summertime as it doesn't melt.
Make your own using my own recipe here: thecatsandthebirds.com/blog/how-to-make-peanut-butter-suet/
The recipe has ice to help it hold its shape when it's first made, and the ice will of course melt unless you live in some very cold place, but the ice melting won't matter because the peanut butter itself won't melt. Peanut butter suet is Better for the Birds, Better for the Cows, and Better for the Earth.
So far this summer I have seen Ladder-backed Woodpeckers, Pine Siskins, Western Scrub-jays, House Finches, White-winged and Mourning Doves, and Lesser Goldfinches eating this and I only put it up less than a week ago. The birds, the cows, and the earth thank you.
Other Feathers on Friday posts:
Hi! It's me agan, Loona. So, it's Awgust now. I am vary honured 2 b posting the furst post of Awgust! Browny and I havn't bin doing enything vary exciting this munth so far. Sleep, eet, watch birds, b petted, skratch stuff, b faymus...the usual stuf. O yeah. Gess wat? Me and Browny are faymus! Wen the windough is open, all the dog-walkers (and their r meny dog-walkers) see us! Now, I am not a fan of dog-walkers, beleev me. They walk stinky dogs! Hoo can like them? Butt wen u r faymus among them, it's kind of hard not to like them. Butt that is the most exciting thing that has hapened to us this Awgust so far, and we r not planing to do much else I don't think. BUTT, fello cats!! I hav discovered an awsom game u can play with ur owners!! I do this evry morning and it never fails to work. So, if ur owners hav a cowch that u can get under, maybee abowt 8 to 10 inchs off the grownd (if u do not hav a cowch like this then u can not play this game so skip ahed). Butt if u do hav a cowch like this, here's wat u do. Ly on ur back with ur paws on the botom of the cowch. Then, moove ur paws like u r walking on the botom of the cowch. Propel urself along! Do not be afrayd! Wen u get to the end of the cowch, turn arownd and come back the other way. "How are my owners involved?" u ask. Be payshent, I wil tel u. They here this noyse and come to investigate. Wen they investigate, they wil c u under the cowch propeling urself along. They wil chase u away. Just ly their and look at them funy. If they do somthing relly skary to get u out, then GET OUT AND RUN!! They won't b abel 2 ketch u unless they r an Olimpik trak racer becuz us cats are vary fast. Butt if they do not do somthing vary skary and u rn't forced to run, then they wil be forced to crawl under the cowch with u!! It always amuses me to c my owners crawling under to cowch. So if u hav the rite kind of cowch, then play this game. It is vary amusing. O no I c Browny aproching!!! He may try to take over the cumpo...HI IT'S BROWNIE HERE!! I HEAR LUNA IS TELLING YOU I AM FAYMUS! 4 ONCE SHE IS RIGHT. I AM VERY FAYMUS AMONG THE DOG-WALKERS OF OUR NEYBORHOOD. BECUZ WHO CAN RESIST A CUTE FLUFFY BROWN AND WHITE CAT LIKE MYSELF WHEN HE SO CLEARLY BEGS FOR ATENSHUN?? NOT ANYBODY I NO!
Helo? Don't u no me? I can certenly resist u.
NO YOU CAN'T!
O yes I can. End of diskushon. And bye the way u speled my name wron. It is L-O-O-N-A. And o my goodnes, u even speled ur own name wron! It is speled B-R-O-W-N-Y. 4 ur infurmashun, 'clearly' is speled 'cleerly', 'anybody' is speled 'enybudy', 'resist' is speled 'rezist', and 'telling' is speled 'teling'.
NO ACTULLY I SPELLED PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING CORECT.
O sur. Enyway, good-by evrybudy. I wil post probly somtime next week or so. Look forwerd 2 it!!
