Here is my weekly Feathers on Friday post for February 26, 2016. This week's Feathers on Friday bird is a Cactus Wren seen last December.
Sorry for not posting in so long! I've been very busy and I hope you'll forgive me and my horrible posting schedule! :)
Yesterday we went up to the Sandia Mountains to look for Rosy-finches. Did you know that the Sandias are the only place in the world where you can see all three species of Rosy-finches together in one place? It's true. But guess what? We didn't see birds except for a Mountain Chickadee and a couple Dark-eyed Juncos, plus a Red-tailed Hawk when we were driving up. We did see the Rosy-finches, but they were far away, hard to see, and there were only two of them: a Gray-crowned and a Brown-capped, I believe. So the trip was a disappointment except for some delicious hot chocolate and a quesadilla with great salsa.
So I was going to post pictures of the Rosy-finches for Feathers on Friday, but I didn't get any, so you'll have to settle for this picture of a Gambel's Quail seen in somebody's backyard in the foothills.
Luna: My goodness, Brownie! We haven't talked in so long.
Brownie: I know! We've texted, and you've spelled things really badly...
Brownie: Sorry, I forgot that's a sensitive subject for you.
Luna: Grrr. Hey, but don't forget the big news!
Brownie: Huh? What big news?
Luna: You know! The BIG news.
Brownie: You tell. Seriously, I have no idea what you're talking about. Wait...do you mean the fact that I have discovered the wonders of drinking from the faw-cat?
Luna: No, and what's a faw-cat?
Brownie: The thing where water comes out of. I think it's specially made so that cats can't turn it on. Which is why it's called a faw-cat. As in, fool the cat.
Luna: Oh. That thing. But no. I'm talking about...DA KITTEN BOWL!
Brownie: Wahoo! Wahoo! DA KITTEN BOWL!!!!!
Luna: That's right. Don't miss it, guys! It's on Heymall Channel. Or sumfing. Just click this link. That'll make it so much easier.
Brownie: Well, you know me. I'm a HUGE kitten bowl fan. What team are you rooting for, Luna? For me it's Boomer's Bobcats all the way! And my favorite player has to be Punkin'.
Luna: Boomer's Bobcats? Are you serious?? You've GOT to be kitten me!
Brownie: Why? What's wrong with Boomer's Bobcats?
Luna: Um...well, just the fact that they're against MY TEAM: the Last Hope Lions!!!!!!
Brownie: Oh. You've just become my enemy.
Luna: See? And my favorite player is Lucky. Not that the Last Hope Lions need any luck when they're totally the best team out there!
Brownie: Grrrrrrrrr!! BOOMER'S BOBCATS!! YEAH YEAH!! BOOMER'S BOBCATS!! YEAH YEAH!!
Luna: Quit the chant, will you! OUCH! Hey! Yeeow! You pounced on my tail! You asked for it!
Brownie: Uh-oh. Sorry, readers! Gotta run! Literally! RUN! Bye! Catcha later! And don't forget to watch the video below!
